3.5 starsHaving read the entire trilogy of "the scandalous sisters", I actually believed that the Liberty for Paul would be the story I would have enjoyed the least. Because, lets face it: Liberty is NOT a nice person! She is actually a horrible person, both in the 1st book and at the beginning of her own story. She is insecure, judgmental, vindictive and ungrateful...
The author does quite a credible job of redeeming her and shedding a believable light on her actions. I did however, feel very sorry for the hero Paul, who is a through and through nice guy, and is being forced to marry this shrew!
*possible spoilers*
I enjoy the virginal hero trope, so that part of the book worked well for me, personally I would have liked a little more sexual tension between the characters, but the romance stays on this side of sweet. I do not, however, enjoy "the big misunderstanding, which could have been worked out through a ten minute talk" trope - so that part did not work for me, also I really did not appreciate the screwball comedy part, where the characters dress up as someone else, and the heroine finally lets the poor man close enough to touch - thinking he is someone else and not her husband...
How the poor guy accepted being almost cuckolded by himself I am still not sure I understand... Also, however attracted to "Tom", Liberty is. The way she discovers he is Paul, just didn't ring true to me. She is such a stickler for propriety, so afraid of the marital act and yet, she sticks her hand down his trousers - to show him where her husband has a scar?
But all in all, it was an enjoyable read, that I do recommend, if you can handle the above mentioned discrepancies...

Liberty for Paul Scandalous Sisters Book 2 edition by Rose Gordon Romance eBooks Reviews
I would've gave a better rating, had I not hated the lead female Liberty. I was so disgusted by her actions throughout the entire book, it was hard to root for them as a couple. I felt the lead male, Paul, deserved much better than getting saddled with an inconsistent, hypocritical, childish, prudish (when serving her purpose), mean, whine ass. I felt so bad for him, it was hard to read this. To bad Rose Gordon failed to write a more likeable character. It put a big damper on what I thought would be a great series. I enjoyed the first in this series, but have been very disappointed with this second installment.
You feel bad for Paul during this whole book. Poor man had to marry Liberty Banks, one of the most vile characters. I rank her right up there with Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights. Just her need to get revenge for any perceive slight got on my nerves. She caused the scandal for which Paul had to marry her. Her holyier than thou attitude and her front about propriety got on my nerves. Poor Paul was manipulated throughout this story. Paul should have ran as fast as he could from the Banks family. John Banks, Liberty's father even had a hand in manipulating Paul by using their friendship from the first book as leverage to bully Paul into marring his daughter to save his family from scandal. That Liberty cause herself by wanting revenge on Paul for what happen in the first book.
As the title implies liberty is a young lady obsess with propriety to the point of having over 500 books in manners and decorum (thank God Paul did something about it). On the other hand Paul is a liberal vicar and down to earth. Together they don't exactly suit each other well. You see liberty dislike Paul very strongly and vice versa but for other reasons because another thing liberty loves is revenge for any misconception and slight imagined. Together they have a lot of misunderstanding that are funny like taking each other's clothes while they are bathing as one example.
I gave it a three star because I like very hot steamy scenes throughout the story unfolding but there is only one with completion with a couple head starts. However, I would still recommend because of liberty's antics.
It's not all bad but I have hugh problems when the heroine can't see the nose on her face. the story had potential and parts I liked but finally I just get mad. why is it necessary to make woman so stupid. The masquerade ball ruined it for me. How a woman can go from despising to loving in a fraction of a second is beyond me, especially when the man is so undeserving.
I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers romances with all the angst, passion and obsession involved. I mean with so much to love how can anyone get it wrong? Sigh! Well apparently you can get it wrong... what a waste of an afternoon!
Liberty Banks is the younger, least pretty sister of Thomas Banks three daughters. Shes everything I hate in a heroine... shrewish, petty, self righteous, runs away from problems and jumps to conclusions in a way that not only embarrasses her but her family too. Liberty is not a wallflower with a bit of sass, she's an annoying brat who needs to grow up!
I don't mind confusion and crossed wires in a story - sometimes it's even great. Hilarious. Nail biting even.
But this one - my God! There was absolutely no excuse for either of the main characters in this story to not speak up way way WAY before the end of the book!
I also have to confess that I loathed the h by about the 2,000 word mark. And she did not redeem herself as the story progressed.
There were some potentially funny bits in the story, but they failed to hit the mark because I was so set against the h, that I wasn't disposed to see the humor in anything by then.
The H was only marginally better; h's father was-. Well, think about what Darcy had to say about Mr Bennett, and you get my drift.
Pacing was slow to going nowhere any time soon.
The whole change of location in the latter part of the book was an excuse me moment that probably underscored the h's self-centeredness. I mean, how long do you have to be a guest in someone else's home before you find out there's been a death in the host's family???
Save your money, people.
